For Non-qualified native English Language Personnel we run a 6 month Teaching English as a second Language package. The course covers Teaching techniques as well as higher training in the English Language. Certificates are presented for those that pass.

Job Function

To carry out all works associated with and including teaching various classes allocated to the Institute, in a pleasing manner, with focus on student well being, progression of subject knowledge and reporting of positive and problematic areas to the: liaison officer and Director of Studies. To work alongside other teachers and staff both inside and outside of the classroom.

Daily routine and office hours

Daily office hours are from 0830 to 2100 hours. Dependant upon the shift the teacher is to be present from either 0830 to 1700hrs or 1400hrs to 2100 hours. (These hours vary from course to course) the hours whilst not teaching are to be used for class preparation, liaison with liaison officers, teachers meetings, parent/student meetings and or general administration.

Student Assembly

There is to be a student assembly on the first Monday of each month at 0830hrs to 0930hrs. It will include:

A reading. (From a well-known book or novel)

A student reading a well-known poem

Dismissal to classrooms

Teaching hours

Teachers will not teach any more than 20 hours per week unless absolutely essential, and then only with an overtime payment for each hour of over time worked.

 Teaching style activities

Teachers are to adopt the CELTA style of teaching with class participation and interaction. This will include group activities, responsive action from students, Full use of teaching aids and or discussions groups together with management concepts being operated at ie:  Class level, (Class senior) Group level, (Group leader and second in command). Teacher training seminars will be made available. 

Class team/group grouping sheet

To be posted clearly in all respective classrooms, Notice board and a copy placed in the administration filing system under file title, Class Groups. 

Teachers schedule

Teachers schedules will be produced by the Director of Studies and are not to be changed, or swapped between teachers. Each teacher will take their turn in both early and late shifts monthly to make this fair for all. 

Preparatory Lesson Plans

Paperwork on class preparation is to be given to the Director of Studies as requested after use. He/She will file daily.

Homework records

A homework record sheet is to be kept by all teachers and filed in the teachers room filing system under the heading Homework records course (Number).

Daily class activity report log

A class daily activity report sheet is to be produced by all teachers for all classes they take each day. This should be completed at the time of taking the attendance role.

Daily attendance roll/sheets (above)

Taken at the beginning of all classes and where possible read and filled in by the team leaders and 2Ics in rotation.

Liaison with liaison officers

Teachers will liaise with liaison officers regularly. The homework files, daily activity sheets file, daily attendance sheets file and classroom participation will be available for Liaison officers to enable them to carry out their job specification. Assistance in these matters is essential for the well-being and informative information that has to be passed to parents on the institutes behalf.

 Liaison with Head Teacher / Director of Studies

Teachers will liaise with the Head Teacher / Director of Studies as required on student activities, response, performance and problem areas if any. Teachers are to attend a weekly DOS meetings on Mondays and are expected to have a constructive role in this for the benefit of the students.

 Students council.

Liaison Officers are expected, together with the DOS, to assist students in the correct running of a student council. This should be run in an exciting but formal manner and will include agendas, minutes of the meetings, Minutes of the meetings action/results and full understanding by the students of their responsibilities in their varying positions within the council. Native Teachers maybe required to assist from time to time.

Dress

Dress is to be of a sober fashion wearing trousers/suit shirt and tie for male teachers and trousers, dress/skirt and/or top for female teachers. 

Jeans, shorts, tracksuits, and dirty un-ironed clothes are not to be worn.

Student Contact

There is to be absolutely no student contact outside of the teaching environment. Fraternising/going out with students is strictly against the rules.

Students will not be spoken to on any matter outside of the curriculum. Discussing other teachers, the company, individual staff or other matters not related to the learning activities, will not be allowed, and is a punishable offence by dismissal.

Accepting invitation for meals out by students or their parents is once again not allowed and viewed upon in Asia as Bribery.

The teaching environment

The teaching environment is friendly and open invite to fellow teachers, the DOS, GIC staff, directors and principals at any time. The classroom should have sufficient seats available for this at all times and all staff  should be welcomed.

Flexibility

Flexibility is required for teachers to cover Mobile Training Unit positions as required at some locations.

Problematic areas

The Institute lays down regulations for the benefit of all. To produce student satisfaction, parent satisfaction, correct teacher workings and satisfaction in peace and harmony. Without job specification's standards would fall and teacher despondency would creep in.
