Job Specification Liaison Officer Reports to The Director of Studies Job Function To carry out all works associated with and including teaching various classes allocated to the Institute, in a pleasing manner, with focus on student well being, progression of subject knowledge, reporting of positive and problematic areas to the DOS for the respective praise/action to be carried out as required. Daily routine and office hours Daily office hours are from 0830 to 1800 hours. These hours are to be used for teaching, class preparation, and liaison with students, teachers, parents, teachers meetings, parent meetings, DOS meetings and or general administration. Teaching hours Liaison Officers will not teach English any more than 6 hours per week unless absolutely essential,. Liaison Officers will concentrate more on the Parent/student liaison and well being. Teaching style activities When teaching you are to adopt the CELTA style of teaching with class participation and interaction. This will include group activities, responsive action from students, Full use of teaching aids and or discussions groups together with management concepts being operated at ie: Class level, (Class senior) Group level, (Group leader and second in command). Teachers will give assistance and participation at times. You must learn to work alongside teachers in an effective manner for the benefit of students and the Institute as a whole. Class team/group grouping sheet To be posted clearly on all respective classroom doors, Notice board and a copy placed in the administration filing system under file title, Class Groups. Student Assembly There is to be a student assembly each Monday morning at 0830hrs to 0900hrs. It will cover the following format and notices and will include: Roll Call A reading. (From a well-known book or novel). Notices A student reading a well-known poem Dismissal to classrooms. Liaison Officers schedule Liaison Officers schedules will be produced by the Director of Studies and are not to be changed, or swapped between liaison officers or teachers. Each Liaison Officer will take their turn in both early and late shifts monthly if required to make this a fair area for all. Preparatory Lesson Plans Paperwork on class preparation is to be filed daily and given to the Director of Studies as requested after use. Homework records Liaison officers will not give homework to students as teachers control this, however Liaison officers will assist teachers as required in this area. (Marking, Reading as required by teachers) Daily class activity report log A class daily activity report sheet is to be produced by all liaison Officers for all classes they take each day. This should be completed at the time of taking the attendance role. Daily attendance sheets Taken at the beginning of all classes and where possible read and filled in by the team leaders and 2Ics in rotation. Students council. Liaison Officers will together with the DOS assist students in the correct running of a student council. This should be run in an exciting but formal manner and will include agendas, minutes of the meetings, Minutes of the meetings action and results and full understanding by the students of their responsibilities in their varying positions within the council. If there are problems within this council teachers should assist and help the students and liaison officers as possible. Student council meetings are to take place weekly on a Mondays after class activities. Student council meetings are also to solve any problematic areas immediately, before complaints to parents, but, are not designed to act for the general whim and wish of students. Support will be given to the Director of Studies in these areas. Student Interviews and Checking You will be required to interview and take on, or decline to have all new students in conjunction with Chinese Law. Dress Dress is to be of a sober fashion wearing trousers, suit shirt and tie for male teachers and trousers, dress/skirt and/or top for female teachers. Jeans, shorts, tracksuits, and dirty un-ironed clothes are not to be worn. Offices Your offices are to be kept clean and tidy at all times. Guidance. Liaison Officers are to guide Native speakers to their best ability on cultural issues where appropriate. English Language. The native language of the Institute is English. Student and staff liaison will be carried out in English. Students are not allowed in any circumstances to liaise in their native tongue. Student council meetings likewise are to be in English.
Company Notice Board. You will place on the company notice board a complete roll call of each class and students name together with their provincial district. You will also place on the company notice board the last, agenda, minutes of the meetings and Actions of the minutes of the meetings for meetings of the Students Council. Company news sheet You will present once per month an item to go into the company newssheet. This will be given to the administration officer monthly for addition on the third Friday of each month. Liaison with Teachers/Head Teacher Liaison Officers will liaise with teachers daily. The homework files, daily activity sheets file, Daily attendance sheets file and classroom participation will be available for Liaison officers to enable them to carry out their job specification. You will assist teachers in classroom activities at least three times per week under the teachers direction. Assistance in these matters are essential for the well-being and informative information that has to be passed to parents on the teachers/institutes behalf. Liaison with Head Teacher / Director of Studies Liaison officers will liaise with the Director of Studies daily on student activities, response, performance and problem areas. Liaison Officers are to attend a weekly DOS meeting and are expected to have a constructive role in this for the benefit of the students. Parent Liaison Parent liaison is to be professional, polite, happy and constructive at all times. Problematic areas are likewise to be communicated, not avoided but dealt with professionally and a communication with students and the parents awareness at all times. A record is to be held on computer of all communications and discussions. (Plus back-up) A copy of the card result is to be forwarded to parents. It will show absences as well as other worthy notes, both good and bad if required. Liaison Officers must be aware of good points for students at all times and relate these to Parents. The Director of Studies will have a communication with Parents as he/she requires and you are to translate accordingly. Problematic areas. The Institute lays down these regulations for the benefit of all. To produce student satisfaction, parent satisfaction, correct teacher workings and satisfaction together with harmony. Without this job specification standards would fall and teacher despondency would increase. Students will also comply in those areas expected of any student. Unruly, none attending, not doing their homework, and/or non-capability will result in warnings to students and notification to parents. Three warnings or Director of Studies decision with upper management liaison will result in termination without refund of course costs. Parents are to be reminded of this at each phone call reporting such an offence. This action is to be documented with dates, time and a polite, happy follow up, truthful letter, for the benefit of the client at all times. ** These Job specifications are not exhaustive and will be updated and amended accordingly by recommendation of all staff as required direct to the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Principle, Registrar or Dean.
