Internet Addiction

If you exhibit three or more of the following behaviors, it might signal an excessive use of the Internet::
bulletStaying on line longer than intended
bulletAdmitting that you CAN NOT STOP signing on
bulletNeglecting loved ones, chores, sleep, reading, television, friends, exercise, hobbies, sex, or social events because of the Internet.
bulletSpending more than 36 hours per week on-line
bulletFailing to cut down on-line time
bulletFeeling anxious, bored, sad, lonely, angry or stressed before going on-line, but feeling happy excited, loved, calmed, or confident while on the Internet.
bulletPreferring Chat Rooms, games, and Multi User Dungeons over other Internet activities.

Time spend exchanging e-mail and searching the Web seems not to be as important as Chat Rooms or multi-user games in determining dependency.

Who Becomes Internet Addicted

Kimberly Young at the University of Pittsburgh, suggests that people who tend to be dependent upon the Internet are those who are likely, lack self esteem, bored, depressed, introverted, or have a history of other addictions.  Perhaps 60% of Internet Addicts are middle-aged women, particularly housewives, not the stereotypical young male computer geek.

Young sees similarities between Internet addiction and people who have gambling dependencies.

TV addiction has effected a much broader spectrum of people.

Do you any of these.

Watch TV during the day and evening.

Watch whilst your are doing other things

Get annoyed if anybody speaks while you are watching

Do you ever have a day when you do not watch TV
